Many community organizations in the Lowcountry offer scholarships to college-bound high school seniors and others.  The following is a list of scholarships sponsored by local groups and national organizations. 

1795 Scholarship - Beaufort

USCB has one of the oldest traditions of higher education in the nation, dating to the 1795 Charter of Beaufort College. The 1795 Scholarship awards eligible USCB students with a $1,000 per semester scholarship to be applied to Beaufort Campus Housing.

Allen Chapel AME Church Scholarship

The Allen Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church Scholarship Fund is a scholarship  for students who attend, or whose parents attend, Allen Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church, are involved in public & volunteer service, have a minimum 2.0 high school GPA and demonstrate financial need. Alpha Delta Kappa International Honorary Sorority Scholarship

The Beaufort Sigma Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa, an international honorary sorority for women educators, sponsors $500 to $1,000 scholarships for students who have been admitted to an education program at USCB.

American Association on Health and Disability Scholarship Program

AAHD's scholarship program supports students with disabilities in higher education. Preference is given to students who plan to pursue undergraduate/graduate studies in public health, health promotion or disability studies, including disability policy and disability research.

Archibald Rutledge Scholarship

The Archibald Rutledge Scholarship encourages and recognizes academic and artistic excellence; students compete for scholarships in creative writing, drama, music and visual arts. High school seniors enrolled in a South Carolina public school and planning to attend a state college or university are eligible to participate in the scholarship competition. Students receiving the scholarships must be United States citizens who have attended the state's public schools for the past two consecutive years.

Community Foundation of the Lowcountry

This online database includes summaries of more than 50 local and regional scholarships, many of which are administered by the Community Foundation. It also includes summaries of state scholarship programs and several national and military scholarships.

Delta Kappa Gamma Society Scholarship

The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International promotes professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education. The Chi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma offers a $500 scholarship to a female undergraduate student at USCB, who is currently pursuing a baccalaureate degree in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education.

AAUW Beaufort Branch
Etta N. Mann Non-Traditional Student Scholarship

The Beaufort Branch of the American Association of University Women is offering its annual scholarship to a mature woman, age 21 or older, who is returning to college following an interruption in her education career. The applicant must be a woman who resides in Beaufort County, has a high school diploma or GED, and is returning to college or technical school in pursuit of her associate's, bachelor's, or R.N. degree. The $1500 award is applicable to tuition and fees only and will be paid by AAUW to the college, university, vocational, or technical school. The applicant must demonstrate scholastic aptitude and leadership characteristics, as well as financial need.

This scholarship is funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Gertrude P. Brown Working Woman's Scholarship Funded by the Zonta Club of Beaufort

The Gertrude P. Brown Scholarship is awarded to working woman studying at the graduate, undergraduate, certificate, or technical level. The Zonta Club of Beaufort offers scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each. The scholarship may be used at any university, college, or institute offering accredited courses and degrees. Giva Scholarships

Giva's Corporate Student Scholarship and Worldwide Community Ambassador Award is for anyone attending a college or university worldwide. This scholarship grant is aimed at assisting undergraduate or graduate students further their education as well as expand their social responsibility and community service footprint in the world. There is no specific course of study or major required.

The Hispanic Scholarship Fund empowers Latino families with the knowledge and resources to successfully complete a higher education, while providing scholarships and support services to as many exceptional Hispanic American students as possible.

James F. Byrnes Foundation Scholarship

All applicants must be a South Carolina resident, who have lost one or both parents by death, have financial need and plan to pursue a bachelor's degree.

Judith M. Davis Legacy Tuition-Based Scholarship Fund for Nursing

The purpose of this scholarship is to provide tuition-based nursing scholarships to students entering their junior or senior year of study, who are pursuing a Bachelor of Nursing degree at an accredited 4-year degree program in South Carolina. The scholarship will cover the cost of tuition less any other scholarships and/or financial aid received by the student up to $10,000 per year. Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher to apply. If awarded, applicants must also agree to work in South Carolina for at least two years directly following graduation (forgiven if military deployment, death or illness preventing employment).

For these merit-based scholarships, ach applicant's scholastic achievement, character, school, and community service, extracurricular activities, and plans for using his degree will be considered in the selection process.

Mary G. Webster Scholarship Fund of the Palmetto Land Title Association (PLTA)

Mary G. Webster Scholarship Fund of the Palmetto Land Title Association solicits applications from eligible student candidates, and this year, the Fund will award at least one scholarship to deserving students. The purpose of the Fund is to provide at least one annual scholarship award to a rising junior or senior (current sophomore or junior), selected by the Association's Scholarship Committee, who is enrolled in a four-year South Carolina college or university, and majoring in a business related field.

Military Scholarships

Red Cross Collegiate Leadership Program

The Red Cross Collegiate Leadership Program begins with an intense two weeks of training, mentoring and networking that will help you develop your leadership skills, discover your purpose, and prepare for your bright future. And that’s just the beginning: you’ll return to campus with a life-saving mission of organizing Red Cross blood drives for your classmates and community! Selected students will receive a $2000 scholarship and roundtrip transportation to Washington D.C. including room, board and stipend.

Sam Murray Education Scholarship

Sam Murray, former mayor of Port Royal, was an educator and school principal in Beaufort County. This $500 scholarship will be presented to a Beaufort County senior to major in education at USCB or a student already enrolled as an education major at USCB.

Scholarships for Military Children

The Scholarships for Military Children is a program supported through the military commissary system and administered by the Fisher House Foundation, which awards hundreds of scholarships to qualified seniors planning to enroll in a four-year program of studies the following fall, or to college students already enrolled in a four-year program. At least one $2,000 scholarship is awarded at every commissary location with a qualified applicant.

Society of St. Vincent de Paul Deacon Thomas J Berney Conference Scholarship

This scholarship is intended to help permanent residents of Beaufort and Jasper counties in South Carolina with financial hardships seeking an undergraduate degree at any  university located in Beaufort county to better their life or the lives of their family. The scholarship awards up to $1,500 per academic semester.

Are you on the path to CPA? SCACPA wants to help you along your journey. If you are a junior, senior or graduate student majoring in accounting you may be eligible. Scholarship amounts range from $500 to $2,500.

South Carolina Nurse Retention Scholarship

The mission of the South Carolina Nurse Retention Scholarship is to retain top nursing talent in Beaufort County. The scholarship is different from traditional scholarships in that it is a “reverse scholarship” that pays students after they complete their nursing degree, but only if they choose to remain and practice nursing in Beaufort County in primary healthcare. In essence, the South Carolina Nurse Retention Scholarship is a talent retention program.

The Water is Wide - Pat Conroy Scholarship

This scholarship is offered by the Fripp Island Women's Club in honor of Pat Conroy, world-renowned author. One of Pat’s earliest books, The Water is Wide, captured his passion for education as a teacher on Daufauskie Island, where the children lacked even the basic tools to learn. Pat believed in equality for everyone and was a strong advocate of the importance of education then and throughout his life. 

In keeping with his legacy, this award is up to $2000 and is intended for any older adult who may not have had the opportunity to continue their education. The award will be distributed by the College/University Bursar to cover educational expenses.

Watson-Brown Foundation

The Watson-Brown Foundation Inc. awards $3,000 and $5,000 renewable scholarships to high school seniors and current college undergraduates. To be eligible, students must be from Burke, Columbia, Elbert, Glascock, Hart, Jefferson, Lincoln, McDuffie, Richmond, Taliaferro, Warren or Wilkes counties in Georgia or Aiken, Abbeville, Edgefield, Greenville, McCormick or Spartanburg counties in South Carolina and plan to attend any four-year, accredited college in the country.

Women United Scholarship

$1,000 Scholarship Presented By United Way Of The Lowcountry Women United Open To Female Students Of Any Age Who Meet The Following Criteria:

  • Recipient must be a resident of Beaufort or Jasper Counties who is currently employed and has viable satisfactory employment rating
  • May be a new or returning student looking to register for a minimum of 6 credit hours at TCL or USCB (If a returning student, must have a GPA of 3.0 or greater)
  • Must have references from two employers or faculty/administrators to speak to the applicant's professionalism and work ethic
  • Must have made some contributions to the community through volunteering in church, non-profits, civic organizations, educational institutions, etc.
  • Must submit a one-page personal statement, explaining how this scholarship will help break barriers to your education and how the funds will be utilized.
