Apply for Financial Aid
Complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)
The FASFA is changing.
The FAFSA is necessary to apply for the following financial aid programs:
- Federal Pell Grant
- Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant
- South Carolina Need-Based Grant
- Federal Work-Study
- Federal Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loans
- Federal Direct Parent PLUS Loan (Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students)
- Limited private loans, grants or scholarships
For assistance with FAFSA, contact 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243).
USCB Priority Deadline
The priority due date for the USCB Financial Aid / Veterans Affairs Office to receive your FAFSA application information from the federal processor is March 1st.
After you apply, it can take up to 2-3 weeks for USCB to receive your FAFSA results, so we encourage you to apply as early as possible.
Financial Aid awards are processed on a first-come, first served basis. Because funds
are limited, with the exception of Pell Grant and Direct Loans, we urge you to apply
early. Applicants who apply by March 1st for the upcoming school year shall receive
first consideration for campus-based federal student aid funds (i.e., Federal Work-Study, Federal SEOG and SC Need-Based Grant programs).
Applications received after the priority date will be considered for available funds
remaining.
Verification
Some students may be randomly selected for verification by the Federal Student Aid
FAFSA Processing System (FPS) and/or the Institution. Verification is the process
to verify accuracy of the data provided on the FAFSA. Institutions must verify the
information provided by the student/spouse and/or parent(s) on the FAFSA before an
award can be offered to the student. If you are selected for verification, you may
be required to submit your and your parents' tax returns, Wage and Earnings Statement
(W-2 Form), and any other document that may be required to fulfill federal regulations
verification guidelines, to the USCB Office of Financial Aid//Veterans Affairs.
USCB students who are selected for verification can login to their SSC Account and
view student requirements by selecting financial aid status under the Financial Aid
tab. It is very important to respond promptly. Delays in response or submission of
incomplete verification documentation will delay the processing of the student’s file
and financial aid award(s).
Please contact the USCB Office of Financial Aid/VA if you have questions.

Self-Service Carolina (SSC)
Self Service Carolina Guide to Financial Aid
If you are awarded financial aid, an email award notification will be sent to your USCB email account. You will be instructed to access Self Service Carolina (SSC) for information about your financial aid awards and the disbursement of your aid. You must have a valid VIP ID number and a USC password in order to log-in to SSC at: https://my.sc.edu/
Follow all instructions provided to ensure that your financial aid awards will be
available for you to use during bill processing. You will also be directed to the
Financial Aid web site to read the Terms and Conditions of your award(s). It is the student's responsibility to read this information and to become familiar
with the terms and conditions.
Your financial aid initially will be processed based on full-time enrollment for both
Fall and Spring. If you do not plan to enroll full-time, you will be able to print
the award notice, make adjustments to the number of hours of enrollment and submit
the corrections to our office. Your awards will be adjusted. Also, you may indicate
in the space provided on the printed award notice if you want to revise or decline
part or the entire offer. The Office of Financial Aid/VA will attempt to meet your
calculated need. However, due to funding limitations, you may not receive funds equal
to the total amount of your eligibility.
All financial aid awards are subject to change if the information upon which they
were based changes or federal regulations require a change. If the total of your award(s)
becomes greater than your documented financial need or the established cost of attendance,
your award(s) may need to be adjusted. You will be notified if such an adjustment
is necessary. While generally not an issue, all awards are subject to the availability
of funding.
DO NOT ASSUME THAT YOUR FEES ARE AUTOMATICALLY PAID AS A FINANCIAL AID / SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT. YOU MUST PROCESS YOUR BILL ON SSC, PRINT AND PROCESS YOUR BILL BY MAIL OR GO INTO THE BURSAR’S OFFICE FOR BILL PROCESSING.
